Q: What keeps you engaged in your work?
A: I think the ability to work with different functional groups has always been interesting to me. It's incredible to be on the cutting edge of technology, where we come up with new ideas, think about how our patients/customers could be better served, and improve user workflows. Human factors and usability engineering are deep passions of mine. And that's what I look for -- I have an engineer’s mindset and think about all the pragmatic things that can be done to improve a process or workflow. I enjoy seeing how ideas go from requirements into implementation, then working with users to test that idea and feeding their responses back into the process. I find the whole process super enjoyable.
Q: Is there a woman who has mentored you or inspired you throughout your career?
A: My mother is the best example. Our entire family are first-generation immigrants to the U.S. My mom and dad came here when they were in their 40s. It was a difficult start for them, moving to another country with a different culture and language. My mother's ability to move into a new career from what she had in China to balancing her role as a mother has inspired me throughout the years. I admire her diligence and tenacity. Her approach to problems has helped me throughout my career.
Q: Can you share with us a little-known fact about yourself?
A: I've traveled to 46 out of the 50 states in the U.S., and I'm hoping to make it to the remaining states before I turn 50. It will be my 50 before 50!
