Lina Garnica

Lina Garnica Gomez is a Human Resources Manager for the Latin America region and for Global Talent Learning and Development at LivaNova. Based in São Paulo, Brazil, she is responsible for creating a vibrant workplace culture where individuals feel valued and motivated to excel. Lina is also leading strategic initiatives to attract and gain top talent. She has been with the company since April 2020.

 

Q: What led you to pursue a career in medtech?

A: Having worked in the automotive field, I understand the challenges of building a career in a powerful industry. Since joining LivaNova four years ago, I have embraced our “Patients First” purpose that has transformed my perception of our work’s impact on improving lives. I am proud to be part of the medtech industry, where technology and passion support employees, families, and patients.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your career path and what led you to LivaNova.

A: I started my career 15 years ago in the automotive industry, working in various HR roles from recruitment to HR management. My favorite role involved partnering with leaders to create an environment where employees can contribute to our organization’s greater objectives. Four years ago, I joined LivaNova where I’ve gained significant experience and personal growth while working in the U.S. and Latin America.
 

Q: Who is a woman who has mentored or inspired you throughout your career?

A: One of my first managers played a crucial role in my personal and professional journey. She inspired me with her strength, courage, strategic vision, and empathy. She taught me that a powerful woman mentoring another woman early in her career is one of the most rewarding roles a female leader can play.
 

Q: How important is it for you to have other women on your team?

A: Having other women on my team is very important to me. A diverse team brings a variety of perspectives and experiences, which can lead to more innovative solutions and a more inclusive work environment. Additionally, working with other women provides a sense of camaraderie and support, which can be motivating and empowering.

Q: What keeps you engaged in your work?

A: I gain a strong sense of purpose from the meaningful impact of our projects on patients' lives. Additionally, the continuous learning and professional development opportunities highly motivate me. The collaborative and diverse environment at LivaNova also fosters creativity and innovation. Lastly, I am grateful for my colleagues and leadership team who support me and keep me enthusiastic and committed.
 

Q: Why would you encourage other women in medtech to work at LivaNova?

A: My experience at LivaNova has been exciting and fulfilling! The patient-focused purpose, diverse and open environment, and daily challenges offer great opportunities for learning, development, and career growth. With regular exposure to leadership, you get to propose new ideas and initiatives that help foster innovation and give you a chance to meaningfully contribute to the company. Additionally, the strong network of female professionals provides excellent mentorship, making it an empowering place to work.
 

Q: Can you share with us a little-known fact about yourself?

A: I love to travel. Plus, I am an avid runner. Having worked in several countries, I have been able to combine both of these passions. Running is a great way to stay fit and challenge myself physically and mentally.
